We Need an Attitude Adjustment
For the most part, all the hype and panic about the downturn of the economy has quieted down, thankfully. We’re in a recession, we all know it, so what, move on.
I talk to a lot of my clients about the entrepreneurial mindset and how important it is to running a profitable business that will be able to weather any economic storm, and I truly believe that attitude is a HUGE part of this mindset.
Seriously, if you’re playing the part of ‘chicken little’ and constantly saying that the sky is falling, you’re probably not going to get much of a response from me. You’re probably not going to see much of me at all.
I believe that my attitude is connected to my body language, and my body language is connected to the sound of my voice, which is all connected to my success. I used to think that I was perceptive about hearing things in people’s voices because I spent so many years in phone sales, but I now realize that it’s because I can feel and hear their attitude in their voices, or body language if we are in the same room.
My daughter and husband quite often hear me say, “It’s not what you say; it’s how you say it.” Sometimes they get it, sometimes they don’t. In the same way that I coach VAs to always have a smile on their face even when they answer the phone, having a positive attitude goes a long way in projecting the entrepreneurial mindset that will attract clients and prospects to your offerings, whatever they might be.
It’s true, people work with us because they ‘know, like, and trust’ us – our attitude plays into the ‘like’ aspect in a big way. Don’t you want to be around people who are go-getters, people who are fun, those who have a positive outlook and are knowledgeable and well respected? I know I do.
So if you want to play in the entrepreneurial sandbox, you’re going to have to think about checking in on your attitude and making sure that you’re bringing positive and valuable benefit to these relationships. The end result will be amazing. Just try it and see.
